This project
starts at Christmas 2022
Teen Thrive helps support those affected
by the mental-health crisis in this part of Oldham. The causes are multiple and
complex, but we recognise factors including long-term austerity, then Brexit
and Covid, and now the unprecedented current cost-of-living crisis: all
disproportionately affect Clarksfield and its neighbours owing to our local
social demographic. This problem is endemic and growing and seems to impact teenagers
and young adults.
Our response and is a new and complementary strand within our existing
Thrive! programme:
● We have a suite of four exercise machines:
cardio-weights gym, bike, rowing machine, and treadmill.
● The machines are housed in a safe haven and is
furnished with a free brew bar, comfy seating, all accompanied with its own
sound system. Play your music in comfort and style!
●
Teenage clients are always accompanied by
staff trained in mental-health first aid. That training comes through Connect 5
(delivered through Lifelong Learning) and/or the bespoke programmes led by the
Anglican Diocese of Manchester.
●
We are currently exploring complementary
strands such as homework club, ad hoc sessions with councillors, Samaritans,
etc. (One member of the Church’s Council is a Samaritan co-ordinator and
switchboard volunteer.)
●
We will later offer the use of Chromebook
laptops for homework, gaming, and supervised social media use.
